Are you still sitting? There’s a wealth of information on how it’s killing you and what you can do about it. However, many people are struggling to make the change to sitting less and moving more, especially at work.
Of course you’re right; I recommend moving regularly – at least once every half hour. It’s also great to be able to move easily from sitting to standing when you’re on your computer.
There’s now an affordable alternative to high-priced standing or height-adjustable desks. Perfect for people who haven’t embraced the DIY hacks. Hootsuite’s CEO Ryan Holmes partnered with designers Steve Suchy and Nathan Martell to create Oristand. It’s a $25 recyclable cardboard desk-topper that can hold a laptop, compact keyboard and mouse. It packs flat; just unfold and you’re ready to work (or carry it with you for a change of scenery). I wish I thought of it.
I already have a standing desk at home where I use my laptop. They’re looking into a future product for iMac set-ups. When that comes out I’ll get one for my office.
Until then, check out my ideas on how to make your home movement-friendly.
