This spring was time for an eye exam. According to the Doctors of Optometry Canada guidelines I was overdue – they recommend every two years for adults, every year if you have diabetes. Babies should have their first checkup at six months of age. You can read their recommendations for eye exam frequency for all ages here.
I also needed new glasses. Mine had suffered more than a few incidents, including a slip down my nose into a hot oven. So I started scouting out optical stores on my walks. I decided on Pink Optical; they have a very well-curated collection and graciously helped me narrow down flattering styles.
They arranged an appointment for me with one of their on-site optometrists, Dr. Sayda Salazar. She was fantastic! I have never had such a comprehensive eye exam. She took the time to explain the different tests for eye health and was very patient with me in determining my prescription. A few measurements seemed quite different from my current glasses, so she double checked everything.
I like to be able to see my computer but also look across my desk to chat with a client without having to take my glasses on and off. Unfortunately, Essilor has recently changed their lens models and no longer manufacture the one I had previously. The opticians, Kim and Kira, went out of their way to determine the best alternative and ordered two different Essilor options, as well as a Nikon equivalent, for me to compare.
After spending some time testing all three, I was able to choose the one that best suited my needs. They carefully fine-tuned the fit of the frames to make them super comfortable too. I’m probably a difficult client as I’m hyper aware (my osteopathic nature) of the smallest changes in sensation. The team at Pink were totally up to the challenge – I am thrilled with my new glasses. I’ll be back to update my driving glasses and sunnies soon.
Whether you need an eye exam or new glasses, I highly recommend the team at Pink Optical. See for yourself; they’re at 1030 Queen Street West, one block west of Ossington.
